The Fallen Angel is in the Old Woods and exchanges one Living Soul for a Sign of Death. Its encounter is associated with the Pale Clearing, but the clearing is not reliably present on every visit. There is no confirmed fixed weekday you can use to guarantee the encounter.
If you remember a pale or white-covered forest clearing and can no longer find it, revisit the Old Woods on later in-game days. Check around the first bus-stop area and the route toward the mine as search landmarks, rather than treating one remembered turn as a permanent entrance. Carry a Living Soul when you return so that finding the encounter also lets you finish the trade.
Find the Fallen Angel clearing

The useful location is the Old Woods, not the town apartments or the Catacombs. Look for a small clearing connected to the forest's side entrances. The pale appearance helps distinguish this encounter from other forest mysteries once you step inside.
The route has an important limit: appearances can change between visits. A passage that previously led to the angel does not give you a guaranteed daily appointment. A missing clearing alone also does not establish that you have broken the save or permanently lost the encounter.
Use this search order:
- Enter the Old Woods and orient yourself using the first bus-stop area.
- Check the nearby clearing entrances and the forest route toward the mine.
- Identify the angel by its request for a soul, rather than by the appearance of an ordinary enemy.
- If the clearing is absent, continue other objectives and check again on a later in-game day.
The Old Woods route guide covers access and the wider forest progression. Follow that page if you cannot reach the relevant part of the woods at all; changing days will not explain every blocked route.
Bring a Living Soul
A Living Soul is the actual item used in the exchange. The angel's dialogue mentions taking a soul, but you do not need to interpret that as an instruction to surrender a character stat. The supported exchange consumes a Living Soul from your inventory.
Several different activities can supply the item:
| Source | Condition |
|---|---|
| Tree Branch Cleanup | Obtain it during the Ancient Tree part of Adrian's task |
| Ancient Mushroom on the Old Woods mine path | Defeat the encounter and collect the resulting item |
| Ancient Tree in the Old Woods | Defeat the Ancient Tree and collect its reward |
| Ancient Mushroom on Old Woods Mines F3 | Defeat the second Ancient Mushroom variant; this pickup is listed as one-time |
| Ghost in Old Woods Mines F3 | Carry Lost Bell and choose Yes in its dialogue |
| Mimic Chest 1 in the Catacombs Mines | Defeat the second Chest Mimic variant |
| Ellie mail | Receive the letter titled To someone special |
| Catacombs chambers | Pick up the item in the Chamber of Kaal or Chamber of Nezroth |
Other sources include bonus loot rolls at shrines and certain Catacombs chests. Those are chance-based routes, so they are a different kind of plan from completing an available task or collecting a known world pickup. Do not assume that one unsuccessful shrine roll means the item is unavailable there.
For a connected progression route, use Tree Branch Cleanup. It lets you pursue Adrian's objective while obtaining a Living Soul along the way. For the later underground sources, refer to the Catacombs guide.
Complete the soul exchange
Speak to the Fallen Angel while carrying a Living Soul and accept its request. The item is consumed, and you receive a Sign of Death. Declining the request leaves the angel asking you to reconsider.
The exchange is listed as repeatable. You still need another Living Soul for another trade, and repeatability does not mean the clearing will be available on demand. If you want multiple Signs of Death, separate those two requirements: enough souls in your inventory and a visit when you can actually reach the angel.
Keep the forest objective separate
The Fallen Angel is an optional exchange point, not the action that completes Tree Branch Cleanup. If Adrian sent you into the woods, your task destination is the Ancient Tree. Trading the soul afterward does not replace speaking to Adrian to claim the cleanup reward.
Likewise, finding the angel without a soul does not mean you must abandon every other Old Woods objective. Note the recognizable clearing, obtain the item through a supported route, and return when the encounter is available. That is more useful than circling the same absent entrance while relying on an uncertain weekday claim.
