To get Dough in Welcome to Elderfield, buy it from the General Store for 50g, or process 1 Wheat of any quality. A Grinder takes 1 in-game hour with a fuel amount of 1. A Windmill takes 3 in-game hours. Dough processing is available from the start; it does not require learning a cooking recipe.

Dough is a cooking ingredient. Turning it into Bread or another dish is a separate step at a Cooking Pot or Oven. If you need food immediately and have no Dough ready, buying the ingredient avoids waiting for Wheat to grow and then finish processing.

Choose a Dough Supply Route

Process in a Windmill1 Wheat of any quality3 in-game hours

Choose buying when the shortage is small and you want to cook immediately. Choose processing when you already have Wheat or want a continuing ingredient supply. Starting with a new crop is the longest route: the four-day crop growth comes before the machine's processing time.

Dough also appears as a world item in Sports World and can be included in loot from several enemy formations. These are supplementary sources. For a planned cooking batch, a shop purchase or Wheat processing gives you a clearer next action than waiting for a particular fight to produce Dough.

Process Wheat in a Grinder

The Grinder conversion uses Wheat, not a separate flour item. Any Wheat quality is accepted, so a low-quality harvest can still supply your kitchen.

  1. Obtain a Grinder and place it where you can use it.
  2. Interact with the machine to open its menu.
  3. Supply Wheat and the required fuel.
  4. Wait 1 in-game hour for the Dough conversion.
  5. Collect the product before planning your cooking batch around it.

The Grinder is placeable in Home, Farm, Workshop, and Ranch. It can be obtained as a reward for The Farmer's Path, or crafted at a Workbench. Its recipe is known from the start. If you are checking a materials list in-game, follow the Grinder recipe displayed there before committing your bars, wood, and stone.

Processing and cooking have different unlock rules. The Wheat-to-Dough conversion needs no learned recipe. Bread is also known from the start, but other dishes using Dough may require their own recipe item.

If you are already using the Grinder for Secret Sauce, keep the input straight: Wheat makes Dough, while the sauce has a different ingredient route. Owning the right machine does not make the products interchangeable.

Grow Wheat for Repeat Batches

Wheat grows from Wheat Seed and is ready after 4 days. Its supported seasons are:

  • Season of Rebirth
  • Season of the Harvest
  • Season of the Witch

The four days are the crop's default growth time. Plan the harvest before the meal you need, then allow the Grinder or Windmill to complete its own job afterward. A seed planted today is a future ingredient supply, not a way to fill an empty Dough slot immediately.

Regular, Silver, Gold, and Void Wheat are all valid machine inputs. Since the Dough conversion accepts any quality, you do not need to delay cooking until a higher-quality Wheat harvest arrives.

Think in finished Dough requirements when deciding how much Wheat to keep. Bread and Takoyaki each need one Dough; several Oven dishes need four or five. A single unit can solve a small Cooking Pot shortage while leaving an Oven recipe unfinished.

Use the Windmill When You Can Wait

The Windmill converts Wheat into Dough in 3 in-game hours, compared with the Grinder's 1 hour. Both accept Wheat of any quality.

If the Windmill is the machine you have available, start the conversion before another planned activity, then return for the product. If your goal is to cook as soon as possible and both machines are available, the Grinder has the shorter processing time.

Do not confuse an unfinished processing job with an unknown recipe. Waiting longer is relevant to the machine's timer; learning another cooking recipe does not speed that timer up.

Cook the Right Dish at the Right Station

Welcome to Elderfield cooking menu with Cooking Pot selected between Oven and Juicer
Select the station named by your recipe. The menu shown has Light Salad selected, not Mana Candy or Dough.

Six recipes use Dough across two stations. Check the entire row before spending your stock, because the Dough amount and recipe unlock differ by dish.

Cooking Pot dishes

DishIngredientsRecipe unlock
BreadDough ×1Known from the start
TakoyakiTentacle ×1, Dough ×1, Milk ×1Use Recipe: Takoyaki
Void Plum PieVoid Plum ×1, Dough ×1, Secret Sauce ×1Use Recipe: Void Plum Pie

Tentacle, Milk, and Void Plum accept any quality in these recipes. Bread is the simplest Dough conversion in the list: it needs no additional ingredient and no separate recipe item.

For a task asking for cooked Bread, Dough alone is still only the ingredient. Prepare the Bread at the Cooking Pot, then follow the task's own delivery steps. The Gatekeeper second-key guide owns that task sequence; this page owns making or obtaining the Dough prerequisite.

Oven dishes

DishIngredientsRecipe unlock
Strawberry PieDough ×5, Strawberry ×8, Secret Sauce ×2Known from the start
Duskmelon CupcakeDough ×5, Duskmelon Slice ×1, Honey ×5Known from the start
Duskberry CakeDough ×4, Duskberries ×2, Earthen Morel ×1, Honey ×2Known from the start

Strawberry and Duskberries can be of any quality for these recipes. An Oven recipe cannot be completed at the Cooking Pot merely because both stations make food.

Buying only the Dough for Strawberry Pie or Duskmelon Cupcake costs 250g. The four Dough for Duskberry Cake cost 200g. Those totals exclude every other ingredient. Processing your existing Wheat is an alternative when you want to keep that gold for something else.

Keep Dough for Ingredients Rather Than Gifts

Dough sells for 25g and has a neutral gift response from everyone. Its main practical role is cooking. Check your planned dishes before selling a stack that would otherwise save you a return purchase.

If a recipe still cannot be made, check three separate requirements: the correct station, the required quantity of Dough, and the recipe's learned status. Then check the other ingredients. Buying more Dough only solves a Dough shortage; it does not replace an Oven, an unlearned recipe, or missing Milk and produce.

For deciding which finished foods to carry on a trip, use combat preparation. Keep this ingredient plan focused on supplying the recipes you intend to make.
