The Golden Beetle in Welcome to Elderfield is in the southeast Old Woods, but its recorded pickup conditions require Good as Gold to be active and a Bug Catching Net in your bag. Start by talking to Hank at the Old Woods Mill Junction, then search with the net carried. Return one Golden Beetle to Hank to receive Blueprint: Keg.

This is a quest item, not an ordinary crop or a repeatable gold source. It cannot be sold. The useful result is finishing Hank’s request and receiving the blueprint; finding a shiny insect without the right task and tool conditions is not the full procedure.

Both the task and the carried net are listed conditions. Entering the correct region is therefore only one part of the search. If you explored the southeast woods earlier without the task, that visit does not establish that the beetle is missing from your save.

If your immediate obstacle is entering the forest, use the Old Woods access guide first. Its route-unlock tasks belong to a separate progression chain. Completing those tasks does not automatically mean that you have accepted Hank’s beetle request.

Accept Hank’s request at the Mill Junction

Find Hank around the Mill Junction in the Old Woods and speak to him about the Golden Beetle. His request is named Good as Gold. Confirm the task in your journal before leaving to search; this is a practical way to distinguish an accepted request from a conversation that has not yet advanced it.

Hank describes a long search for the beetle and offers his woodworking knowledge in return. The concrete inventory reward recorded for completion is Blueprint: Keg. You do not need to turn this into a broader relationship route or bring him a general gift in place of the task item.

Keep the quest giver’s region separate from the search region. Mill Junction is where the request starts and finishes; South-East is where the beetle is found. Searching beside Hank simply because he gives the quest can send you through the wrong part of the forest repeatedly.

Get a Bug Catching Net from Hans’s task

Farmer Hans’s separate Bug Catching task lists a Bug Catching Net as its starting item and asks for a Pale Empress Moth. If you do not yet have a net, speak to Hans and check that part of his task progression. The Hans task guide covers his broader progression.

The moth request and Hank’s Golden Beetle request have different hand-in targets. Obtaining the tool through Hans does not mean you should give Hank a moth, or give Hans the Golden Beetle. Keep Good as Gold as the active objective for this search, and carry the net it requires.

Carry the net and search the southeast woods

Welcome to Elderfield Old Woods path between trees and undergrowth
Old Woods overview. Search the South-East region with the active task and net; the beetle is not marked here.

Put a Bug Catching Net in your bag before entering the search area. The recorded condition is carrying it. There is no established equipment-slot requirement here, so do not substitute a guess about which slot must hold it for the actual inventory check.

Head into the South-East section of the Old Woods and search for the Golden Beetle there. This guide confirms the region, but does not supply a verified tile coordinate or a turn-by-turn route from every entrance. Use your current map and location labels to keep the southeast search distinct from the Mill Junction hand-in.

The world map guide helps orient the Old Woods relative to the rest of Elderfield. The overview is useful for travel planning; it should not be read as a marked Golden Beetle location. Likewise, a screenshot of a forest path identifies the region rather than proving that the insect sits beside a particular tree.

After collecting the item, check that its name is Golden Beetle before returning to Hank. Its key-item status and inability to be sold fit the task: this is something to deliver, not a resource to process into another material. Avoid a crafting or selling detour when the journal’s next action is the hand-in.

Return the Golden Beetle and claim the blueprint

Go back to Hank at the Mill Junction, speak to him, and give him the Golden Beetle. The required amount is one. The recorded exchange removes the beetle and gives you Blueprint: Keg.

Confirm the reward after the conversation. A blueprint is the result of this request; it is not the same as receiving a finished Keg. Building the machine is a later action with its own requirements, so check its current construction entry before committing other materials.

If you still see the task’s search objective after returning, check whether the beetle is in your inventory and whether the relevant conversation reached the exchange. Do not assume that walking into the junction completes the quest. Keep the sequence explicit: acquire the named item, speak to the giver, and finish the hand-in.

Work through the confirmed conditions before trying to reset the forest or spend another day searching. Neither a mandatory midnight respawn nor a particular season, weather condition, or capture percentage is established for this task here. Adding those restrictions would make the route harder to follow without giving you a supported solution.

If all three basic checks match—active Good as Gold, net carried, and southeast region—but the task still will not advance, record what the journal says and what happens when you interact with the item. That information is more useful for a bug report than simply saying the beetle disappeared. Keep your game version with the report, and avoid claiming that an untested restart or mine reset will definitely repair the quest.
